Getting Away

So life lately, well the past few years, has been anything but easy. Lately I've gotten such a headache thinking about my future. I feel like sometimes I'm suffocating in Utah. I can't move forward to where I want to be; luckily, I'm getting away to clear my head...TOMORROW!

And what better place to go, then my favorite place: Sun Valley Idaho.
Seriously, I've been a lot of places in my life, but Sun Valley is so homey and I always leave there with a smile on my face. There's always SO much to do there - whether it's skiing, ice-skating, shopping, relaxing, swimming, snow-shoeing, eating, sledding, bowling, watching a movie in the classic Opera House, etc. The food in Ketchum is amazing, the shopping is awesome (love their bookstores), and the winter activities seal the deal. I've been in the summer once before, and it definitely wasn't the same experience. I love ice-skating at the Sun Valley Lodge!! It's actually something I'm really good at.

There is so much history in this town, and every time I go, I see a movie star without fail: Jamie Lee Curtis, and last time was Greg Kinnear.
Sun Valley Serenade
It'll be nice to get away and clear my head, so I can return to Utah and know what I want to do. Whether it's go to grad school, look at more teaching jobs here, or in another state, etc. Sometimes you just need to break away. This is LONG overdue if I do say so myself.

Also, sometimes you need to find something to fill that void in your life. I'm a very creative person, so besides focusing on writing, I was thinking of starting a project (small little business with my friend Mary), and selling/making jewelry, and crocheting!! My mom is SO amazingly talented when it comes to crocheting. She's made blankets, scarves, and hats. I would love to start getting into that and maybe making some extra cash on etsy or what not. Plus my friend Katie makes and sells unique jewelry, so I think that would be fun also!! I'll keep you posted if I do. But here is the progress I made in crocheting yesterday (beginner).
Just was practicing, but not too shabby eh?? I'm going to start a red scarf soon! Probably on the way to Sun Valley!
Anyways, that's all for today! I wont be posting till I get back, but get ready for a bunch of pictures!! Have a great rest of the week bloggers.

A Little Bit of This & That

Guess what day it is my blogging friends: FRIDAY!!!

What are everyone's big plans for President's Weekend? I'm actually going to be a bum for most of the weekend. I just really don't want to go out much to be honest with you. I think going to my dad's house tonight for a cookout, Zumba in the am, and hanging with the boy all day Saturday. Sunday maybe movie day?? And yea!

All I can tell you though, is that I'm super bummed about something. Ian Somerhalder is going to Sun Valley. Do you know who he is. Here let me help:
That sexy boy with the beautiful blue eyes! Well he's going to Sun Valley Idaho this weekend. I thought for some reason that President's weekend was NEXT weekend. And I'm going to Sun Valley next weekend. I thought finally I'd meet my Hollywood crush! Sun Valley is small enough...I definitely would've run into him. Oh but wait...what? PRESIDENT'S DAY WEEKEND IS THIS WEEKEND.

There went my chance. Ha! So close. Someday!! Still, Vampire Diaries are heating up the screen! Love that show so much.

You know what else I LOVE?

I know I've talked about them a lot, but still...I'm re-reading the series, on Mockingjay right now, and seriously I love the way that Suzanne Collins writes. It's so good that it sucks the reader in completely, yet it's simple, not a lot of big words, etc. I hate when I'm reading a book, and it just goes on and on and so many words that I am like whoa wait, what did I just read? Don't like that. I want to write like she does!! It just flows really nicely. I think Suzanne is an expert storyteller to be honest!!

And, I cannot wait for the movie. Is it going to be rated R though? That's a lot of brutal killing!!
Opening Night!
Last night was my 2nd month anniversary. And I'm a weirdo, I like to celebrate them all!! I don't want gifts and things like that, I just like to hang with my boy. So we went to the most amazing grilled cheese place (12 different types), and saw Chronicle. Have you all seen that movie? What did you think. It was interesting I suppose?? I'm seeing the movie with Reese Witherspoon this weekend!! Pretty excited. She's one of my favorites, and Chris Pine is sexy!!

Well, I hope you all have a wonderful Friday and weekend. Thanks for listening to my rant and raving!!
Flower delivery service was late! But beautiful flowers from my daddy for V-Day!

A Valentine's Day Worth Remembering

It's no surprise that I'm not that big with Valentine's Day. I think it's a holiday that is around just to make money, and I don't believe that you need one day to say "I Love and Appreciate You." I also think it makes people who are alone, feel crappy. HOWEVER, this year is a little different for me. Two years ago I was dating a guy who was awful and selfish...made me feel so horrible. Last year I had a wonderful dinner with my cousins (we were all single), and it was wonderful, however my step father was dying from ALS. So this year is a little different, I don't have Greg (my step-dad anymore) and it's still really hard for my mom...but I have a great guy.

The greatest Valentine of my life so far.

Will is such a great guy. He does things, sweet things, all the time. We don't need this special day. One time, when we had only gone on one date, I was sick and he got me chicken noodle soup, two movies, candy, and flowers to "get well" um yea, it was all over after that and I was hooked! He's constantly thinking of others and I think that's why I feel the way I do. When you show love for others, it makes you feel love.

Tonight we could do anything, just the two of us. BUT, he knew how hard today would be for my mom because it's the first year without Greg. Also, my step-father proposed to my mom on this day 20 years, can you say bittersweet?? Or more like a dagger to the heart :( But Will suggested, that the 3 of us hang out. So me and my mom are going to see a movie, then the three of us are going to get chinese food and watch a movie after. I think it's the sweetest thing a guy could do. And that's why this day is worth remembering.

He also sent me a dozen red roses today:
Beautiful aren't they?
And my wonderful, wonderful mother gave me these and a beautiful card:
Pink Rose Plant that will keep blooming!! (Pink is my favorite)
I realized that you don't need to be bitter on this day if you don't have someone...because love is all around you. I sometimes actually think this holiday is a good thing because it makes you stop your busy day, to take a moment and realize everything you appreciate and love in your life. I think it needs to happen a lot more, but still ;)

So with that being said, I hope you have a day full of love, with your spouse, bf, gf, friends, parents, pets, yourself, and other family. Be thankful. Feel love. Show love. And appreciate all that you have.

The Message of Love

I'm very big when it comes to quotes. It's just how I've always been! I love the written word, and I feel like statements, quotes, and sayings can be extremely powerful, as well as other writings: poems, stories, etc.

Today I wanted to share, right before Valentine's Day, the written word that can be so inspirational.

What does LOVE mean to you? It's a feeling yes, but it's something more in my opinion. Love is everything in life. And I'm not just talking about man and woman, etc etc. I'm talking the love for all people, places, your surroundings, your blessings, everything you own, your goals, ambitions, etc. If you've read The Power, you'd see that love is the main force behind everything. It can transform you completely.
But truly, take a minute and think about everything you love in your life. I've made many lists, and I'm trying a new thing, where right when I wake up, I say everything I love, everything I'm thankful for, etc. I do this before I look at my cell phone, before I get up and talk to my mom. This is the first thing that pops in my head. It can really change your mood as well.

Have you ever written a love letter? Well recently I did. There is something about actually getting a parchment of paper, and writing down the words. I wish people still sent letters, and I decided, I'm going to start doing that more.

So I'm going to share a love letter with you. Who wrote it you ask? Why John Steinbeck did. Have you heard of him? I sure hope you have. He is the author of East of Eden, The Grapes of Wrath, and Of Mice and Men. Anyways, this letter is a "beautiful response to his eldest son Thom's 1958 letter, in which the teenage boy confesses to have fallen desperately in love with a girl named Susan while at boarding school. Steinbeck's words of wisdom—tender, optimistic, timeless, infinitely sagacious—should be etched onto the heart and mind of every living, breathing human being."

It's remarkable:

New York
November 10, 1958

Dear Thom:

We had your letter this morning. I will answer it from my point of view and of course Elaine will from hers.
First -- if you are in love -- that's a good thing -- that's about the best thing that can happen to anyone. Don't let anyone make it small or light to you.

Second -- There are several kinds of love. One is a selfish, mean, grasping, egotistical thing which uses love for self-importance. This is the ugly and crippling kind. The other is an outpouring of everything good in you -- of kindness and consideration and respect -- not only the social respect of manners but the greater respect which is recognition of another person as unique and valuable. The first kind can make you sick and small and weak but the second can release in you strength, and courage and goodness and even wisdom you didn't know you had.
You say this is not puppy love. If you feel so deeply -- of course it isn't puppy love.

But I don't think you were asking me what you feel. You know better than anyone. What you wanted me to help you with is what to do about it -- and that I can tell you.

Glory in it for one thing and be very glad and grateful for it.

The object of love is the best and most beautiful. Try to live up to it.

If you love someone -- there is no possible harm in saying so -- only you must remember that some people are very shy and sometimes the saying must take that shyness into consideration.

Girls have a way of knowing or feeling what you feel, but they usually like to hear it also.

It sometimes happens that what you feel is not returned for one reason or another -- but that does not make your feeling less valuable and good.

Lastly, I know your feeling because I have it and I'm glad you have it.

We will be glad to meet Susan. She will be very welcome. But Elaine will make all such arrangements because that is her province and she will be very glad to. She knows about love too and maybe she can give you more help than I can.

And don't worry about losing. If it is right, it happens -- The main thing is not to hurry. Nothing good gets away.

How extraordinary isn't it? He defines love so poetically. Yet powerful. Here are some other powerful messages...
Love the children's responses :)
One of my favorite sayings below. I love how much they use it in A Walk To Remember:
Love is exactly what is described above. But stop and realize if you love as much as you should. And if not, why? It's a feeling inside yourself. And it's one that matters. It's the reason we live.

On that note, I want to end this post with the famous song: I Will Always Love you by Whitney Houston. What a tragic loss. May she find peace.
Listen to the words she sings...that's love.

The Art of Kissing

Goooood Morning!! I used to LOVE Saturday mornings as a kid. Wake up early, watch cartoons, play Nintendo, eat waffles :) So, what do you say I do that again ;) I'm the nerd who loves Nintendo it's true. The thing I should be doing instead of eating waffles, is working out...but meh, whatever!!

So I said in my last post, that all month I want to do "lovey-dovey" posts. I'm sorry for those who are against love at the moment, and don't want to hear it. But I think everyone can enjoy cute pictures, creative ideas, etc. Even if you aren't in a relationship, you should wake up everyday feeling the love around you and be grateful for what you have. Showing love to a stranger by saying hello, or asking someone how their day is going. It isn't a hard gesture, and it'll make someone's day!

Today's post is about: "The Art of Kissing"
No, I'm no expert, so don't worry...I'm not going to sit here and tell you how to "kiss properly." I solely think that depends on the two people kissing. Come on, you know you've kissed someone't good at it...right? I'm not the only one! But you will have those special kisses. The ones that take your breath away. The ones that leave you wanting more? Let's just say this post is about the art of the photography used to catch these types of kisses.

Back in the day, men used to court women. It would take months before months if they even kissed the women they were "fancy" about. Nowadays, the media sells "sex." It shouldn't always be about that in my opinion. I think we need to focus on being romantic, and sharing those special moments with one another - saving certain things for the right time.

I went through and found my favorite kisses on Pinterest (the site I'm beyond obsessed with - and btw, why is Martha Stewart so amazing at everything. You'll see what I mean in the posts to come...if you don't already know it).

So please take a minute, and enjoy. If you don't have that special someone you can go kiss after this post, look forward to when you WILL be able to kiss that person. In good time. In good time. Never rush a good thing.
Remember: Find A Man
"Let it Spark!"
 "Grow Old with You"
Don't they just make you happy, especially the "Grow Old with You?" Because they sure do make me happy!! I think ideally, everyone wants to grow old with that special someone. It doesn't always work out that way, but that's what we dream about when we are little. Well..if you're a hopeless romantic like me you do!

So go ahead, your time to talk. Tell me about your first kiss, great memory kiss, one to remember, your favorite kiss, your worst kiss (funny), or send link to your own kissing pictures!!! I'm very curious.

I'll tell you mine:
  • First kiss: Spin the bottle (game in 7th grade) - but it was to my childhood it was great.
  • Great memory kiss: On a baseball field - love there you go.
  • One to remember: Kissing my past boyfriend for the first time in the rain. It was just romantic.
  • Worst kiss: Someone in college you basically slobbered all over my face. Had to hurry back to my sorority to wash off my face...water works. And he jammed his tongue in my mouth. It was like dueling. Wasn't a fan...
*Favorite kisses: But the greatest kisses, are the ones I share with Will now. I know that's cheesy, but it's true. Every single time we kiss, I get the butterflies, and it feels like the first time. Actually one of the first times we kissed, there was a spark. Yes, we had a spark. It's kind of funny though, because we are such good friends (have been for 5 years), I remember laughing because I thought of the FRIENDS episode, where Rachel and Ross first get together, and every time he touches her butt, she starts laughing saying, "Ross' hands are on my butt!" Just funny when you're friends with someone for so long, switching over. It's not weird, just different. Different from anything I've ever had. And that in itself is amazing. I'm excited to see where our future goes, and the pictures we get of kiss.

The Art of Kissing concludes ;)

Stay tuned for: Valentine (love) Crafts!!! And most likely...more food!!

Have a great weekend! xo.

Love Month

Hey cuties!!

So February is considered "The Love Month" or "Single-Awareness Month." Usually in the past, I post about being single, but this year...I'm not. Two years ago I kinda liked someone, but it was a HORRIBLE Valentine's Day. The guy was awful, just awful. And then last year was good but sad because my step-father was dying. He managed to send me flowers even though he could barely move at that time. What a wonderful man. But this year I have a special someone, so I'm going to do the cheesy post...yes I am.

He's such a great guy, because instead of me and him just going out for a special evening on Valentine's Day, we are cooking and watching movies with my mom. This year is hard because it's all the "firsts" without my step-dad. I don't want her sitting there all by herself, and at first I felt bad doing that to my boyfriend (hanging with my mom), funny thing though...? It was his idea.

Usually I think V-Day is a way for people to get money. If you think about it, it's somewhat true. You don't need one special day to tell someone that you love them, and appreciate all that they do for you. That's why I like to focus on the WHOLE month.
I'm a very crafty person, so I like to make stuff. That can include cooking as well. But I've been known to make cards. That's what I do - ever since I was little, I would make birthday cards, Mother's Day cards, Christmas cards, and yes...VALENTINES. I think it makes it even more special, because you take the time to do it.

Pinterest, one of my favorite sites, really helps bring out the creative side in you!! Let's take a glance shall we?
Now lets get really creative! I love the next idea for children taking Valentines to school!
How creative and awesome is this:
Look how awesome these crayon V-day cards are (then they have a crayons)
Make a coupon book - ADORABLE
Then of course there's always BAKING!! Most of these have links to go to - cooking ;) Look how cute they are! Love the cupcake with the arrow!
Suzie's Confections: Tons of Chocolate Dipped
Shortbread Scrabble I Love You
Sweet Sensations
Lofthouse Sugar Cookies
Rice Crispy Dipped
Red Velvet Cupcakes
I love hearts!!
Do you want to go out with that special someone, or in a group? But you just don't know what to do? You don't want to do the same "dinner & a movie" type of night. WE KNOW. So look at this blog! They have tons of great date ideas!
Date Night Ideas
You never can know if this person, is the Mr. Right. But why don't you enjoy the "right now" of it all. Enjoy your time together now. But who knows...they just might be that special someone you've been waiting for.
By the way, this has absolutely nothing to do with this post, but because Thursday = Vampire Diaries day, I had to post these pictures. If you are a fan of the show and think Ian Somerhalder is the hottest guy of all time (sorry Will), then look at the Entertainment Weekly pictures they were all in!! This photo-shoot is smoldering. All I can say is, Nina are one lucky, lucky lady.
One last shout-out to my new followers!! I cannot wait to get to know you all so much better! So come say hi in this post and tell me a little bit about YOU. And do you have a special Valentine? If not, that's awesome too!!

The days up until V-day, I'm going to post other "lovey-dovey" stuff, including a special post about the man in my life. So stay tuned dear friends!!
